SUMMARY

The Safety Specialist will assist in the development and implementation of safety initiatives and programs to ensure the safety of all employees in our production facilities. This position will report to the Safety & Training Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the development and implementation of safety initiatives and programs to ensure the safety of all employees in our production facilities.
  • Monitor safety regulations and industry standards to ensure compliance.
  • Conduct safety audits and inspections to identify risks and hazards.
  • Design safety protocols and procedures to reduce workplace injuries and illnesses.
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees.
  • Investigate workplace incidents and provide recommendations on corrective and preventative action.
  • Monitor safety data and analyze trends to determine areas for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain safety documentation and records.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure safety standards are met.
  • Assist in the development of emergency response plans.
  • Inspect work areas to ensure working conditions follow Occupational Health and Safety Standards (OSHA).
Requirements

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 12 months of experience in Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or directly related field.
  • 30 hours of OSHA training or willingness to successfully complete 30 hours of OSHA training.
  • Experience with developing and implementing departmental safety regulations and/or departmental, policies and procedures.
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.

KNOWLEDGE

  • PC proficient with MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Bilingual in both English and Spanish a plus.

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Ability to read, write and complete paperwork related to the role.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) to effectively collaborate with employees, managers and external agencies.
  • Reasoning – Follow instructions and perform routine, repetitive task(s) to recognize problems.
  • Mathematical – Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers.
  • Communication – Ability to understand and follow verbal, written or demonstrated instructions and short correspondence. Ability to write identifying information
  • Technical – Ability to operate and control equipment; ability to monitor equipment to make sure it is running properly.
  • Physical Effort – Medium work: exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly, 20 pounds of force frequently, and 50 pounds of force occasionally to lift or move objects.
  • Vision – far, near, and mid-range, depth perception and adequate field of vision
  • Activity – Regularly stand, use finger dexterity, reach with hands and arms, engage in repetitive motions and grasp; occasionally talk, hear, climb, kneel, crouch, lift, push and pull.
